Access your Gmail and Google Docs Even When the Cloud Cuts You Off

We love cloud computing, especially here in Hawaii.  We’ve become so dependent on cloud computing that in the rare occasions when some parts of the service go down, you are completely powerless to getting any work done.  Might as well turn off the power, hit the beach, and get a tan, right? Think again!

Get your Gmail/Cal/Docs without a Net connection

Last week Google had a nearly 1 hour outage on Google Docs. Wish I would have had this application then! Though you can’t edit Google docs (yet), you can do your Gmail even you’ve lost your net connection. Let me know what you think of it.

Get free infinite storage for life.

I’m checking out BitCasa, which is a cloud-based file storage company. I used (and loved) Mozy until they went bonkers with their prices. Then I switched to BackBlaze to handle my backups. One of the founders of BitCasa is from Mozy so that got my attention.

BitCasa uses some apparently sophisticated technology to encrypt your data at your computer, before it uploads and then efficiently store your data in the cloud. So efficiently that they can do it for super cheap. I’m hearing prices under $10/mo. For infinite storage.

Right now they are running a brilliant promotion: sign up for the beta program and get your friends to sign up. The more people that you sign up, the better chances you get to win.

So, please use my link here to sign up (so that I get a chance to win!) and then tell your friends (so that YOU get a chance to win!) . If this service is what they claim, I will sign up whether I win or not. Good luck to us all!

From their blog:

For the next 50 days we will select two people per day to get a lifetime of free Bitcasa. Here’s how it works:

  1. In order to qualify, you must refer someone else to sign up (via link or social media)
  2. Once you refer someone, you will be eligible for a daily drawing. We will select two winners of free infinite storage per day
  3. The more people you refer, the higher your chances of winning. For example, if you refer 50 people that sign up for our beta, your name will be entered 50 times

The contest will run from September 12th to October 31.

Good luck and stay posted to our Twitter accounts to see who are the lucky winners.

Google launches Travel Search engine.

Very cool. Very Google in terms of speed, simplicity and power. It just takes a few clicks to instantly get competitive flight information for any round trip in the U.S.
