The $25 web browsing PC that fits on a USB stick

This has tremendous implications for getting basic computer power into everyone’s hands. This $25 PC is about the size of a USB stick, connects to a monitor (could be your HDTV) a keyboard and gives you basic web browsing functions. When you think that a TI-30 calculator cost $375 in the ’70s (adjusted for inflation), it gets pretty mind-boggling to think about how far we’ve come. (Political injection: behold the power of unregulated free markets!) If this technology gets mass produced, it will be a game-changer.

Hawaii Sprint Customers: Do we get Google Voice?

I just got my email from Google today announcing that Sprint and Google voice has been integrated. This *could* meant that Hawaii phone numbers, previously denied 808 area codes (from what I understand, due to Hawaii regulations) might actually see their Sprint numbers (yes, 808 ones) work with Google voice. I have too much on my plate to play with this during the day but tonight is another story. Stay tuned. I will attempt to activate Google Voice on my Sprint EVO 4G phone and will report on the results. Let’s keep our collective fingers crossed!

Your Sprint number becomes your Google Voice number so that when people call your Sprint mobile number, it rings all the phones you want.

Update: 11:13pm 5/3/2011

The answer: NO! I’m really disappointed. Though the Google error message didn’t explain why my Sprint number wouldn’t work, I can only guess it’s related to the Hawaii-specific regulatory restrictions.

oh well. bummer.

Update: 5/11/2011

Apparently it’s just me. Others in Hawaii are reporting success. I’m going to call Sprint and find out why. My guess: I ported my number over from Tmobile and hence it can’t go Google. Just a guess. I’ll keep y’all posted.

Bin Laden’s data almost as valuable as the man.

Of course Bin Laden’s death brings closure for many, the real capture was the data. Can you imagine what’s on Bin Laden’s hard drives?

Intelligo works when the power doesn’t

Here is an incredibly valuable yet essentially “free” benefit of the Intelligo product:  continued connectivity during power outages.

Today there was an outage which affected much of the east side of Honolulu.  While I don’t have the details as to specifically which regions were affected, the only region that really matters, MINE, was affected.  Our extensive battery backup configuration allowed us to safely power down all electronic equipment.

But what then?  Intelligo to the rescue.

In a few minutes, my laptop + Intelligo was on, doing just fine, and I continued my work. Because I essentially “live in the cloud” all of my other services were up and running. The laptop is running of its own internal battery of course, and I’ve connected Intelligo to the laptop via USB to supply it with fresh power.

If my laptop batteries drain too low, I can merely plug my laptop into the battery backup and within about a 1/2 hour I will be fully charged again. I don’t know how many times I can recharge my laptop from my battery backup, and I hope I won’t have to find out. But I’ll report the continued findings here.

Thanks Intelligo!  Not only was I productive enough to keep working, but I apparently also found enough time to write this post!
