How to fix the chrome 37 Facebook ugly font problem

I was excited about upgrading my Chrome browser to version 37, as it was supposed to make my fonts look better.  After the upgrade, however, Facebook ends up looking absolutely awful, essentially unreadable.

The initial workaround was to magnify to 150%.  Ouch.

Better solution: disable the DirectWrite “feature” that got installed.  go to chrome://flags/ and “Enable” the “Disable DirectWrite” setting (I know, it’s weird, you enable the disablement) and things will get back to normal until Google/Facebook figures this out.

FYI: I’m using (2) 1920×1080 monitors and one 1280×1024 monitor all connected as one.

Hope they fix this soon.

I’ve got a public discussion thread on my Facebook page.

Your phone will be your universal computing device

In your car, living room, or on the desktop, your future phone will control all.

Which phone goes to the car: iPhone or Android?

Google wants to own your screens. All of them.

Google Drive coming to a corporate server near you

Really big deal and long overdue. Google Drive is going after the enterprise.

Iphone 6 better have voice over LTE functionality

I can’t see why it would not, but still…

Google Launches Nexus Trio today

Today Google launched the Nexus 10 inch tablet, the Nexus 4 Phone, and and updated Nexus 7 tablet.

The 3 Nexus Devices

I was personally waiting for the Nexus 4 phone but right off the bat its lack of LTE speed is an immediate deal-killer for me and that’s a bummer because it looks like a nice phone.

The tablets are interesting though I’m not sure they are competitive with Apple’s iPads at “only” $100 less. Why would someone not spend the extra money on an iPad and get the most popular device with the most apps?

However, if you love Google (like I do) and not so enthused about Apple (while I do buy Apple hardware I run Google software on it), these are worth a closer look.

I do wish, though, that there was a Google Store I could go to and get hands-on with these devices.

Next time you send an email, hold down the shift key before you click on the Compose button.  A new email window will pop up which lets you compose and send your emails much faster than the usual way.

Drag and drop attachments to Gmail

The next time you’re sending attachments in gmail, save time by selecting multiple documents from your computer folders and then drag and drop them on the gmail subject line. Google then uploads the documents automatically.

Get your business on Google+ Pages. Finally!

I’ve been patiently waiting for this move and now it’s here. While Facebook is still the gorilla in the social media room, it’s worth setting up your company’s Google+ page online. I’m certainly going to!

In life we connect with all kinds of people, places and things. There’s friends and family, of course, but there’s also the sports teams we root for, the coffee shops we’re loyal to, and the TV shows we can’t stop watching (to name a few).

So far Google+ has focused on connecting people with other people. But we want to make sure you can build relationships with all the things you care about—from local businesses to global brands—so today we’re rolling out Google+ Pages worldwide.
